  • Vivek Oberoi, after attending the funeral, wrote an open note to the Bollywood industry

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, on Sunday, was found dead in his Mumbai house and is being said to be a suicide due to depression. A handful of Bollywood celebrities attended his funeral on Monday, one of which was Vivek Oberoi who after the funeral aimed some plain-speaking towards the Bollywood fraternity.

In a note he shared on his Instagram handle, Oberoi said that Bollywood should “b***h less and care more, less power play and more grace and large-heartedness,”. These words echoed with a small, yet, a powerful chorus of the Bollywood industry whose voices have been raised against what has always been described as “the Bollywood Privilege club” and “gatekeepers of Bollywood”. This is the same group which the film industry is notorious for and by which power is wielded by a select and elite group of Bollywood.

Vivek Oberoi wrote, “This needs to truly become a family, a place where talent is nurtured and not crushed,”.

Sushant Singh Rajput, the 34 year old actor, was found dead in his Mumbai home and allegedly felt shut out by the Bollywood industry despite his immense talent and several successes on the big screen. Though Vivek Oberoi never worked with Sushant Singh Rajput, the former appears to have felt some kinship with him. Oberoi wrote, “I’ve been through my own journey of pain, it can be very dark and lonely.”

Sushant Singh Rajput who committed suicide debuted in Bollywood with Kai Po Che! Vivek Oberoi wrote, “When I saw his father today, having to light the fire at the cremation, the pain in his eyes was unbearable. When I heard his sister weeping, begging him to come back, I can’t express how deeply tragic it felt.”
