Selena rose to prominence following her Disney show, “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Ever since, she has continued to give fans a sneak peek of her life through her heart-shattering honest music and hilarious TikTok.
Selena was diagnosed with lupus back in 2015 and took a break following the same. She got admitted into a rehab facility at the start of 2014.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. It can affect joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
She opened up about her 2017 kidney transplant due to complications that arose from lupus. Her friend Francia Raisa was the donor.
Selena took her 2nd lupus-related career break in 2016, opening up about her mental health challenges.
On the Giving Back Generation podcast, she confessed to being affected by comments related to her weight changes but tries to keep off social media.
Selena flaunts her transplant scar on her IG. She says she is done trying to cover it up and feels confident in who she is.
She has a tattoo symbolizing the day of her kidney transplant beneath her right arm.
“I'd like to see the day when all young women can realize their dreams of life without a Lupus,” she said at the Lupus Research Alliance's Breaking Through Gala.
