Kelis had released the track “Get Along With You” back in the 2000s which was penned by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo.
She stated that Beyonce's new song "Energy" from her album "Renaissance" contains samples of it, but blasted the other pop diva for being "utterly dumb" for just giving the original songwriters credit.
She took to IG to express her resentment: "My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding. I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled. It's not a collab, it's theft! It’s ridiculous!"(sic)
Back in 2020, the "Milkshake" singer claimed that Pharrel and Chad, also known as The Neptunes, had broken their promise to divide the sales of her first two albums evenly and that they had "lied to" and "tricked" her.
Kelis said: "I was told we were going to split the whole thing 33/33/33, which we didn’t do. I was blatantly lied to and tricked by the Neptunes and their management and their lawyers and all that stuff and just the fact that I wasn’t poor felt like enough.
The "Bossy" actor responded to another Instagram user who said they "always felt like Beyoncé genuinely admires Kelis" by saying, "Admire is not the word."
That's a collaboration the world desperately needs, another admirer commented. Kelis responded, "It's not a collaboration it's theft."
The lead song off the new album, "Break My Soul," samples "Show Me Love," a 1993 Robin S. house anthem, as well as Teena Marie, The Clark Sisters, and the late Donna Summer.
Five of Kelis' albums have charted on the Billboard 200, and she has had seven appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including the top five song "Milkshake" in 2003.
